El Queso Chueco is a family run project that started in the Galapagos Islands because we believe that everyone should have access to good nutritious food close to home – especially cheese! We began producing cheese in early 2020, right at the start of the pandemic, in less than ideal circumstances. For that reason our first cheeses were all just a little bit crooked, as our name implies!
We now make a variety of ages cheeses that follow traditional and artisanal European recipes and methods. Many of our cheese can be compared to cheese such as Camembert, Butterkase, Tomme, Gruyere, English Cheddar and others. But at the same time they have they own unique flavors local to this area. For this reason the cheeses are named after local Galapagos sites – Leon Dormido, El Puntudo, Corona del Diablo and so on.
We also make a very traditional style strained full fat Greek yogurt and german style Quark. All of our milk comes from free ranging pasture fed Jersey Cows that live a very active life style traversing the semi difficult volcanic terrain of the Galapagos Islands. We believe this gives our cheeses and yogurt a very unique and amazing taste.
